PRECURE GUIDE
So! Celi asked me if I could do up a miniguide to Pretty Cure, so I'm just going to do that now.
Pretty Cure (Precure, if you want to shorten it) is a very popular magical girl franchise is Japan! It's not really all that well known to western audiences and the various shows in the metaseries only started getting consistent subs when Heartcatch Precure began airing. There are actually still some earlier shows that, as far as I know, don't have any subs that last for the entire show.
Precure tends to follow the monster-of-the-week formula with some lessons mixed in, but it is so much more than just that. The plots are wonderful, and as far as I know, many Precure series get very dark at the end. It's not really something you'd expect from a magical girl show aimed at little girls.
Also, another thing to note is that Precures tend to be the brawlers of the magical girl genre. If you watch a Precure show, you can expect kicking and punching to make up the majority of the fight, although that doesn't mean they don't have some pretty cool magical attacks or finishers.
... So I guess the next best part to get to here is all of the different series this magical girl series has spawned. As a note, for many of the series, the most I know is what I have seen in the Pretty Cure All-Stars movies. The only ones that I've seen entirely are Heartcatch and Suite.
FUTARI WA PRETTY CURE

Okay so, this is the very first Precure to ever appear. The two main characters are named Honoka (Cure White) and Nagisa (Cure Black). They get pulled into HAVING TO SAVE THE WORLD. What makes these two unique is that they must have each other to both transform and attack. When they are together, they are actually stronger than a lot of the current Precure teams in terms of strength.
HERE is their transformation and HERE is the opening.
FUTARI WA PRETTY CURE MAX HEART

THIS... is a sequel to the first season of Precure. It introduces a new girl - Hikari - and she is Shiny Luminous. They have to do the usual world saving stuff that they did in the first season, and it's still very important that Cure White and Cure Black are together so that they can beat the enemy into a pulp.
HERE is the Max Heart transformation and here is the one for Shiny Luminous. HERE is the opening.
FUTARI WA PRECURE SPLASH STAR

These are completely new girls despite their appearances! Saki, the one that looks kind of like Nagisa, is Cure Bloom/Cure Bright and Mai, the one that looks like Honoka, is Cure Egret/Cure Windy. Splash Star is supposed to be one of the better ones in the metaseries, although I can't say for sure since I haven't properly seen this one yet! It follows the usual pattern of having to save the world. I can't say for sure (and if someone knows better than me please let me know!) but I do believe that them needing each other is very important to how strong they are in a fight.
HERE is the transformation and HERE is the opening.
YES! PRECURE 5

This is the first Precure series to break away from the pattern that was starting to form. These guys are a five person team, and they do not need to be with each other to transform although I honestly can't say for sure. Nozomi, the pink Cure, is Cure Dream. Rin, the red Cure, is Cure Rouge. Urara, the yellow Cure, is Cure Lemonade. Komachi, the green Cure, is Cure Mint. Karen, the blue Cure, is Cure Aqua.
NOTE: This is one of the series that I have not found subs for! If anyone knows where they are, please point me to them because I'd love to watch this one.
HERE is the transformation and HERE is the opening.
YES! PRECURE 5 GOGO!

So...! This is the sequel to the last show. There hasn't been a sequel season made since this one, so the only shows to have a sequel are Futari wa Precure and Yes! Precure 5. The characters are the same, but there is the addition of a girl that goes by Milky Rose. I don't really know the details on this because this suffers from the subbing issues that its prequel has.
TRANSFORMATION and OPENING
FRESH PRECURE

Fresh Precure!! This is a show that apparently breaks a few Precure traditions, although I'm not sure which one are broken because I haven't seen more than ten episodes unfortunately. Love, the pink Cure, is Cure Peach. Miki, the blue Cure, is Cure Berry. Inori, the yellow Cure, is Cure Pine. Setsuna, the red Cure, is Cure Passion. I can't say much for the story, but I'm pretty sure there is world saving involved. :'D
OPENING and TRANSFORMATION
HEARTCATCH PRECURE

Heartcatch Precure is the one I recommend everyone starting with!! Partially because I'm incredibly biased towards this show. It's cute and the art style varies a lot from the other entries to the metaseries so far because the designer was the person who worked on Doremi! It's focused very heavily on flowers, and it covers a lot of serious topics very well. Tsubomi is the pink Cure, Cure Blossom. Erika is the blue Cure, Cure Marine. Itsuki is the yellow Cure, Cure Sunshine, and Yuri is the purple Cure, Cure Moonlight. This series also focuses a lot on the hearts of others and trying to find healthy ways to handle the problems that might get thrown at you in life.
TRANSFORMATION and OPENING
SUITE PRECURE

Suite Precure is a completely music themed show. It takes advantage of all kinds of music terms and it's just... really fun? The main cure duo takes awhile to really learn how to work with each other, but when they do, they are pretty amazing. The plot is wonderful and it punches you in the feelings and it's very likely that your mantra during it will be JUST KISS!!!! It's super cute and worth a watch. Hibiki is the pink Cure, Cure Melody, and Kanade is the white Cure, Cure Rhythm. There are two others that join along the way, too-- Cure Beat and Cure Muse.
As a note: the end of the plot was to be much darker than it actually was because of the earthquake in Japan. It says something about the writing quality when the show can make last minute changes and still have it fit into the plot that's already been built up.

SMILE PRECURE

This is the latest addition to the Precure metaseries! It's currently airing and I am personally waiting until it's finished before I watch it, but-- it's based on fairytales and it seems really cute from what little I have seen! It focuses on a 5 cure team like what happened during Yes! Precure 5. The pink Cure is Cure Happy, the green Cure is Cure March, the red cure is Cure Sunny, the blue cure is Cure Beauty, and the yellow Cure is Cure Peace!
